"THANK YOU, ALBERTO ALUNNI
Last summer, in the small hilltop town of Montone in Umbria, we came across an art exhibition:
Metamorphosis…The Canticle of the Creatures, a series of exquisite metal sculptures hung outside on the walls of the cloister of the small medieval church of San Francesco. The Umbrian artist, Alberto Alunni, had drawn inspiration from the poem/song/canticle written in 1224 by St Francis of Assisi. The sculptures captured the earth, the wind, fire and water, animals, birds, the moon and the sun. I was completely captivated by them.

Back home, I couldn’t stop thinking about these works of art. I managed to track down the artist to find out if any of the works were for sale. Through Google Translate, Alberto and I began our friendship. He told me that all the works had been sold, but that perhaps he could make one for us. For several weeks we exchanged ideas. I told him about our work at Callanish and how a transformation takes place in the people who take part in our retreats and circles, as each person, one by one, finds the healing they need. I gave him the dimensions of our new outdoor space in the garden at Callanish (funded by a generous donation from Steve Kurdyak and Colleen Kirkham) and also sent him a photo of the Callanish stones.
The drawings arrived: the stones, the moon and the wind, all captured in his splendid artwork, which perfectly captured the atmosphere of Callanish. To my utter surprise, Alberto then decided to donate a large portion of the cost of the artwork in support of the work we do. The artwork now hangs in our garden room, enhancing the whole building, thanks to the brilliant and generous Alberto Alunni.
